Welcome back, families!

Reminders:  Week of Sept. 10-14

If you are interested in a hot lunch for your child on Wed., Sept. 12, send $3.60  on Monday morning, 9/10.  We have to collect and turn $ in that day.(cheeseburger, fruit cup, chips)
Additional charge of .50 if child would like bottled water.

Communication folders will go home weekly.  You will recieve:  a share schedule, walk-around-sun schedule, hot lunch schedule, hot lunch envelope, snack envelope, Sept. news, etc.. Please respond and return the folder the next day.

Your child will need black slippers by this week.  These stay at school, in cubbie.

Orientation/staggered start went very well.  We will continue to practice and help your child build upon these lessons. Car pool is going well.  Remember, we must be very brief, so if you need to speak with us, plan on coming in earlier or call and we can schedule a time to meet with you.

Lunch is going great!  Remember, hot lunch is an option, as well as, snack.  Just call, email or send a note if your child's diet calls for them to bring their own snack.  That is fine.  Also, we cannot heat your child's meals, so please send things that are in containers that they can open themselves.  We are in the process of accessing allergies of students and will need to update you as to which foods we may need to stay away from as a class. Thank you for understanding.

Picture Day is Wed., Sept. 12, uniforms please and 3-6 usually is scheduled first thing in morning. All of our student's uniforms look great! Shoes must follow policy, as well.

If Mrs. Hardee needs to speak specifically to a parent, she will call and send an email to follow up.

Please join us Thurs., Sept. 13 @ 6:30 for a Community Meeting on campus.

Thank you for the generous supplies,
We appreciate your support,

WMPCS: Eco-lodge and class room needs

Hey parents,

Friday's field trip will be to the little known ECO Lodge in Blounts Creek. This environmental education center on the south side of the Pamlico River near Blounts Creek is provided by the Boy Scouts for Scouts, school, community groups and the citizens of eastern North Carolina. The ECO Lodge was made possible by a generous grant from PotashCorp of Aurora. You can learn more about the facility by linking here: http://www.ecolodgenc.com/

I haven’t been but I’ve heard some pretty amazing stories about the facility. Honestly, I'm kind of jealous. Seth, my dear sweet husband, will accompany Sophia on tomorrow's excursion. He gets all the good field trips.

In other news the classroom is in need of the following items:
- Large bottle of Hand Sanitizer
- Liquid dish detergent

In order to avoid making dinner, we'll be at the middle school's Pancake Supper tonight. Slapcakes will be served from 4-7pm at First Church of Christ, off 10th Street in Little W. $5 will get you through the door.

Hope to see you there,
Bianca

Aloha volunteer opportunities

Hey Parents,

Or should I say Aloha? Have you weeded your grass skirt? Shook the dust off your coconuts? Gathered your lucky pig tails (or is it a rabbit foot thats lucky?) Either way, I sure hope you plan to attend Saturday's school fundraiser. Its sure to be a good time.

As you know, March 21 is picture day (parents, thats your cue to mark calendars). Dori, our beloved MPTO president, is looking for one parent from each classroom to assist teachers in moving kids through the photo lines. The Hardee/Hill classroom is taking photos from 8:45 -10am. Who's available? The photo schedule is attached.

Also, on March 5th, from 9-11am, a parent is needed to serve as the room assistant/delivery driver for our monthly Zion Shelter Lunch Drive.

Please let me know if you are available for either of these volunteer opportunities!
Thanks,
Bianca

February Newsletter

                                                                                                          February 6, 2012
Happy  Valentines,

·          Thank you:
Parents for helping our day get started smoothly and quietly each morning.  By
this time of the school year, your child should be able to separate at the door,
come in get slippers on and come to circle with little assistance.  This is going
            very well!!

Thanks for sending in soup kitchen ingredients this month!  Also a big thanks to
Teresa Silverthorn for volunteering to help prepare and deliver the “Cabbage
Pot” lunch to Zion Shelter and Soup Kitchen today.

·          Reminders:
If your child is doing sight word activities, keep in mind that this assignment is
good preparation for 1st grade.  Parents, it is a great time to observe in the 6-9
classroom.  You just need to sign in at office.  You do not need an appointment.

·          Kidsfest Project  assignment:
Your child will be studying the world and the seven continents as part of the 3-6
classroom curriculum. Your child will have an individual Kidsfest assignment.
We will be sending home a February/March calendar with your child’s name
plugged in on a Monday, Wednesday or a Friday  of an assigned week.  Your
child’s calendar will have an assignment written on it.  This is your child’s first
research project.  We are hoping that this assignment will allow you and your
child to spend some quality time trying to learn something about one of the
      continents of the world.

·          3-6 Kidsfest group performance:
The performances will take place on the evening of Kidsfest, Friday April 20, 2012. The 3-6 students will be practicing international songs with Mrs, Rhem in preparation for Kidsfest from now until Kidsfest.

·          Valentines:
Please use the roster to address all valentines. We would like to give students time to work on these with Parents, but send them in as soon as you finish. Your child will get to deliver their valentines the same day they bring them in. If need a copy of the roster, contact bianca.shoneman@gmail.com

·          February fieldtrip:
Our class participates in the soup kitchen community service each month, so Hardee/Hill class will not be going to the assisted living centers as Gaddy and Moore classes will go on Feb. 14.

Our next fieldtrip will be on Friday, February 24.  We will be leaving our classroom at  9:00 am. and returning around 12:30 pm.  We will be traveling to the Tarheel Variety Theatre for the production of  “Alice In Wonderland”. Thank you drivers.

·          Auction:
Please plan on coming to our biggest school fundraiser for the year. Our annual auction “Luau” is planned for Saturday, February 18, 2012, beginning at 5:00 for those who want to preview all the items up for auction.  We have recently shown our 3-6 students what their $3.00 donations went toward. With your donations we were happy to create a “discovery basket”,any 3-6 or 6-9 student would love to have.  The 3-6 teachers would like to encourage all of our 3-6 parents to come out for a night of fun!  Thank you parents for sending donated items in as well.

Thanks for your continued support,
Mrs. Hardee and Mrs. Hill
